Blast Off

On December 16th, 2015, the Linden SDA seventh grade STEAM participants officially began their gym renovation floor plan project. Their new design has yet to be named, but the seventh graders eagerly set out on their journey using Sketchup. The first thing they decided to tackle was the designs for the new lockers, a simple design, to get them prepared and warmed up for the challenges that were to come.

Since they had already taken the measurements of the gym and of the lockers, with their physical education instructor, they were able to find a scale that would suit the floor plan. Pairing up in groups for support, the seventh graders came up with personalized small scales of the lockers they want to see blown up to size when the gym is renovated.

Using the skills they had learned in the first lesson when they prepared their new name tags, they were able to input their own creativity into the general design for the lockers. The “blast off” for this project proved to be a success, as well as a learning process, teaching the seventh-grade class both patience and how to work together as a team.
