The Arts and Crafts students have advanced so much with the completion of the Community Quilt. Students have been preparing for the presentation next week that will showcase the first draft of the layout of the Community Quilt. At this point, the students have completed their first community job symbol by decorating, cutting and sewing it to the felt fabric. Once the symbol is sewn on the felt fabric, they will sew it on the 10X10 inch piece of patterned fabric. Then, the students will pin the symbol to the community quilt. They will be able to rearrange the symbols to where they feel it looks best.
The students have worked so hard and have been very focused on completing the Quilt. The students and I are eager to see the final result of the Laurelton Community Quilt.
DIVAS (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Sciences) for Social Justice aims to bridge the digital divide by combining media literacy and cultural awareness along with a vast understanding of technology to encourage young women in under served communities to pursue careers in computer science and new media.
