Fresh Start

Now that the sixth graders have completed their stop motion video and first “semester” project for the year, they’ve gotten started on their final project, visual and tangible dioramas using Google Sketchup, of their idea of a better Laurelton. This past week, they have drawn street view diagrams of their ideas of what would make Laurelton’s Merrick Boulevard better, keeping this year’s theme in mind–economic development.

The sixth graders have begun to ask questions that will make this project worthwhile–what does a community need to remain stable, to thrive? What brings business into the community while keeping residents happy and financially steady? What businesses could do all of these things and make Laurelton’s “Main St.”, Merrick Boulevard and potentially the whole city, a better place?

They are excited to get designing as soon as they have finished their templates, as am I.
