Introduction to the Laurelton Community Quilt

Arts and Crafts

All students in the Arts and Crafts class are continuing to add completed projects to their portfolio. Students will also continue to learn the basic skills of sewing. I will continue to teach the students the concept of hand sewing and various types of hand stitches. It is my goal for the students to grasp the full concept of hand stitches so that they can apply those skills to future projects.

The Arts and Crafts class will be introduced to the Laurelton Community Quilt project which will reflect the community. Each student will cut and design 24×24 inch fabric. They will personalize each piece of fabric with something that represents the Laurelton Community and its development. Students will be practicing basic hand stitches to get comfortable with using the needle and thread so that they can apply these skills to put together the pieces of the quilt. I will be teaching them how to properly use fabric scissors to cut the fabric safely. The students will be enhancing their skills in preparation for this project. The quilt will include many patches of fabric that have been cut and personalized by each student.
