Trying Is Good Enough For Me

These last two weeks have been pretty fun I must say. We have continued in our sun and moon kung fu by adding on new sweeps and new styles all together. The young ladies have pushed their ways to the for front expressing either the most interest or most skill in.

All the kids have taking a liking to all the new activities and games we have the opportunity to try. Capoeira was the style of the last two weeks introduced to the kids. Well, I must say it was more of a challenge than expected. With all the dancing these kids do nowadays I thought this style would’ve came most natural but it seemed to be the hardest style they have learned yet. Capoeira is a an Afro Brazilian style of martial arts that requires constant motion mixed with an arsenal of cool creative attacks and evasiveness is just second nature to the style.

With a lot of practice I’m sure it will click or lack of practice all together.Really the children are thinking to hard some times. When I attended college and continued to study dance I came across similar moments. Where I would always learn the steps but the more I thought about the steps the worse my dancing looked. It was only when I allowed my eyes to watch my teacher dance and I would then allow my body to mimic his motions. Before you know it waltz, tango, salsa, I’m your guy.

I believe in my students the same and that they too can prevail as soon as they stop thinking and let it flow. As I explained to them some talents or skills truly come from self. I can only teach you so much before you hit a wall , its up to you to figure out how to get through or around. None the less I enjoyed their outgoing personalities displayed during their silliness at attempting the moves or better yet the rhythm.  I appreciate all the efforts regardless.
