This week we looked at different ways to complete a circuit. First we powered LED’s using alligator clips and battery pack. Next we powered the LED’s using conductive tape on Felt. The last circuit we made used conductive thread and challenged the students to learn how to do a running stitch. Sewing is a great way to introduce students to learn about technology and wearables, as well as learn about different ways to manipulate technology in creative ways.
In the future, we will use these techniques in order to create controllers for virtual environments.
DIVAS (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Sciences) for Social Justice aims to bridge the digital divide by combining media literacy and cultural awareness along with a vast understanding of technology to encourage young women in under served communities to pursue careers in computer science and new media.
