Some of the students wanted to be challenged a bit, so I came up with this boat. What I believe would have been most challenging for them to create in figma was the flag. The first class didn’t quite get it during the time I had so I came up with a simpler approach that I knew would create the curve but would not be pointy in areas that needed to be. This was the sacrifice that I was willing to make and I knew it would look recognizable. Due to time and the complicity of this design I also told them to complete the boat first and then the other areas if they had time.
DIVAS (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Sciences) for Social Justice aims to bridge the digital divide by combining media literacy and cultural awareness along with a vast understanding of technology to encourage young women in under served communities to pursue careers in computer science and new media.
