Parent teachers conference are usually nerve reckoning for many students. Parents converse with their child’s teacher for the first time and for many students who don’t behave, do their classwork or homework, it can get ugly pretty fast. This wasn’t the case for our students. All of them received good grades and it was the first time I saw so many smiles on parents faces.
We also invited parents to visit our office to see the amazing work their child has been producing Parents was given a chance to listen to our “TreyWay” post produced by their child. Our VR setup became a huge hit and it received praise from many parents.
DIVAS (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Sciences) for Social Justice aims to bridge the digital divide by combining media literacy and cultural awareness along with a vast understanding of technology to encourage young women in under served communities to pursue careers in computer science and new media.
